I need to talk about this scene for a minute.
I was floored by the brilliant parallels in this movie, and by how wonderfully they were handled. When Jim is saying to Spock, “This… this is what you would have done.” He wasn’t lying. Anyone who’s ever seen Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan knows that Spock actually did do that. He was the one who died slowly against the glass, with Jim crying out his name, unable to help him, unable to even touch him in his final moments.
This scene was executed flawlessly and I was left a sobbing, heartbroken mess, which only serves to prove how wonderful the film itself is as a whole. Their hands - Jim’s fingers shifting to form the Vulcan Salute - everything about it was perfection.
